“Three tracks lasting for a total of thirty-five minutes. Most of you already see the connection between the length of time and the number of passages and you have probably deducted that we are talking of post-rock, a music style that has become famous in the past through bands such as Godspeed you black emperor and Mogwai. The two groups aforementioned belong to a small circle of artists from which this British quintet was inspired in the making of their album, which has a cloudy and crepuscular sound to it.

As for the emotion of this style of music, The Winchester Club have patiently built long intros which progressively gather an instrumental tension which does not suddenly explode, and flows into a final breakdown as spectacular as it is foreseeable; it is the case in ‘Settle Down’, nine minutes so intense which almost makes it feel claustrophobic. The circular tunes played by guitars and basses in ‘… but there is no space’ tell a story of distant landscapes and atmospheric mutations, in a suffocating whirlpool of images and suggestions.

Although ‘Brittania Triumphant’ may be strident at times, this emerging band has successfully produced an outstanding work and has shown the invaluable addition of impressive vocal performances which completes a sound that is darkly welcoming.” kronic.it
